Sotto leaves Adelaide to pursue another opportunity
Filipino NBA hopeful Kai Sotto is leaving the Adelaide 36ers in Australia’s National Basketball League (NBL) to pursue another opportunity.
The 36ers website reported the development on Monday.
“A new opportunity for me is really good and another opportunity for me to play basketball, I’m excited,” said Sotto, who signed a three-year contract with the final year being a player’s option back in 2021 with Adelaide.
“I didn’t want to spend a lot of time not playing, I’m lucky I’ve been offered this deal.”
In his two NBL seasons, Sotto registered 7.1 points and 4.5 rebounds across 50 games.
After his first season with the 36ers, Sotto threw his name in the 2022 NBA Rookie Draft but was left undrafted, leading to a return trip to NBL.
In the 2022-2023 season, Sotto logged 6.8 points and 4.4 rebounds. Sotto and the 36ers bowed out of the playoff contention after a 107-117 loss to Melbourne United on Sunday.
Sotto also expressed his gratitude to Adelaide in an Instagram post on Sunday.
“I am so grateful for the two unforgettable years in the city of Adelaide! It had its ups and downs, but I’m sure the 36ers community will always be part of my life and I’ll miss this place. I appreciate all my brothers that I got to share the court with. Thank you Adelaide!”
