An All-Star team of Ginebra players? That’s on Scottie wish list

SCOTTIE Thompson is honored by the chance to be one of the team captains in the coming PBA All-Star Game in Passi, Iloilo.

But with the way the votes have been coming in, Thompson admitted it will be a difficult task to select his teammates in the showcase game since a couple of those in the hunt for spots are Barangay Ginebra players.

“Unang-una, nagpapasalamat ako sa lahat ng bumotong PBA fans at Ginebra fans. Sana suportahan din talaga nila ‘yung All-Star. Malaking bagay ‘yun kasi kababalik nga lang ng All-Star. Excited kaming mga players,” said Thompson.

“Nakaka-pressure din na ikaw ang pipili. Bago sa atin ‘yun. Tapos narinig ko, maraming Ginebra players,” said Thompson.

Thompson is currently at second in the voting with 37,759 after the first week, with June Mar Fajardo in front with 37,915, in line to be the team captains of the protagonists in the All-Star.

Aside from Thompson, also in the top 24 are six more Ginebra players in Japeth Aguilar (third, 37,322), Jamie Malonzo (fourth 32,998), Christian Standhardinger (seventh, 29,821), LA Tenorio (ninth, 28,027), Stanley Pringle (10th, 27,441), and Jeremiah Grey (17th, 18,875).

Even Barangay Ginebra coach Tim Cone is also the frontrunner in the voting among the coaches.

The two team captains will be selecting through a draft to be held sometime before the players leave for Passi for the All-Star Game. In the draft, Thompson hopes that he will be able to get his Ginebra teammates in his All-Star team if he turns out to be the team captain.

“Siguro kung kami mamimili ni June Mar, sabihin ko sa kanya, huwag i-pick ‘yung Ginebra. Nakikiusap ako,” said Thompson.

“Si Coach Tim na rin mag-coach sa amin,” said Thompson.
