Diego debuts as F2 faces PLDT

REGINE Diego is all set to make history as the first woman head coach in the professional volleyball scene today, February 7, as her F2 Logistics faces fellow debuting PLDT in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the PhilSports Arena.

The match between the Cargo Movers and the High Speed Hitters is set at 4 p.m.

Diego, a former De La Salle Lady Spiker, is set to test her mettle against PLDT coach Rald Ricafort, who is making his coaching debut for the High Speed Hitters after leading Petro Gazz to the Reinforced Conference championship last year.

Diego said that being given such an opportunity — first woman head coach in the pro scene, comes with great responsibility for her to be a role model for women, especially those who are into volleyball.

“I’m happy to be the first [lady coach in the pros] and hopefully not the last. I want to be the start, I want to be the spark. It’s also very pressuring,” said Diego.

“It’s very hard because I also have to set an example to all women supporting women’s volleyball. We’re doing our best and hopefully a woman can be the last man standing.”

Diego looks to bank on F2’s old reliables in Kim Dy, Kim Fajardo, Abby Maraño, and ace newcomer Myla Pablo.

Opposite them are Mika Reyes, Jules Samonte, Dell Palomata and Rhea Dimaculangan for the High Speed Hitters.

Meanwhile, the Cignal HD Spikers and the Chery Tiggo Crossovers are also making their debuts today as they clash at 6:30 p.m.
