Kai Sotto signs with Japan B. League’s Hiroshima
Former NBA prospect Kai Sotto has signed with the Hiroshima Dragonflies of the Japan B. League.
The team confirmed the signing on its website on Tuesday.
“We are pleased to inform you that Hiroshima Dragonflies have newly agreed to a contract with #11, Kai Sotto for the 2022-23 season,” the team wrote in Japanese.
Sotto said he is looking forward to playing for Hiroshima.
“I am looking forward to playing with the Hiroshima Dragonflies. I will do my best to make the season of the Dragonflies, which aims to win the B. League Championship, and have a great season. I am grateful to the president and general manager for giving me this opportunity. I am looking forward to meeting my teammates, staff and of course the fans,” he said in a statement published by the team.
“From the announcement of the contract agreement to the announcement of the player names, I think there were many people who waited with high expectations,” stated Dragonflies general manager Shuji Okazaki.
The 20-year-old Sotto last played for the Adelaide 36ers of the Australian National Basketball League, where he played 27 games this season and tallied 6.81 points per game.
He is one of multiple Filipinos playing in the Japanese league, which includes the likes of the Ravena brothers, Greg Slaughter, Dwight Ramos, and many others. ARIC JOHN SY CUA
