Gatchalian inspects NCR care facilities
Newly appointed Social Welfare and Development Secretary Rexlon “Rex” Gatchalian on Wednesday assessed the condition of nine care facilities of the agency in the National Capital Region (NCR).
“If we will reach out, we need to make sure that they will feel our compassion. The residential care centers should be livable and comfortable,” Gatchalian said.
Among the facilities inspected by Gatchalian were the Reception and Study Center for Children; Golden Reception and Action Center for the Elderly and Other Special Cases; National Vocational Rehabilitation Center; Rehabilitation Sheltered Workshop; Bahay Silungan in Quezon City; Sanctuary Center; Nayon ng Kabataan; Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking-Trafficked-in-Persons Center; and Jose Fabella Center in Mandaluyong City.
Gatchalian said it is important to ensure that the Department of Social Welfare and Development has the appropriate facilities and personnel to perform its mandate.
He added that among the challenges the NCR facilities were facing include the need for upgrade, funding and hazard pay for the staff.
