Fil-Am makes Youth Winter Olympics
FILIPINO American teenage short-track speed skater Peter Joseph Groseclose will compete in the Youth Winter Olympics next year in Gangwon, South Korea.
The Philippine Skating Union (PHSU), in a statement on Thursday, said Groseclose made the cut after the International Skating Union (ISU) released its results from the ISU Junior World Short Track Speed Skating Championships held on January 27-29 in Dresden, Germany.
Groseclose competed in three events: 500 meter, 1,000 meters and 1,500 meters.
“The ISU has officially released the results and our very own 15-year-old Peter Groseclose has made the cut for the upcoming 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games!” the PHSU wrote on its Facebook page.
According to the PHSU, Groseclose is the third Filipino skater to take part in the Winter Youth Olympics after 2014 Olympian Michael Christian Martinez in 2012 and short-track speed skater Julian Macaraeg in 2020.
“This will be a momentous event for the Philippines as it will be the third appearance of Filipino ice skaters in the prestigious quadrennial meet, and the first back-to-back representation for 2020 and 2024 games,” the PHSU added.
