LTFRB to drivers: Honor fare discounts

LTFRB to drivers: Honor fare discounts

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) warned public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers and operators yesterday to honor fare discounts or face sanctions.

The LTFRB said that drivers should ensure that the 20 percent discount for students, senior citizens and persons with disability should be honored no matter the PUV mode.

The board said that it has received numerous complaints that some drivers are not charging the correct amounts or giving the discounts.

Drivers or operators face penalties of P1,000 to P5,000 for the violation.

They may also get their driver’s license suspended or have their certificate of public convenience or franchise revoked if they are found guilty.

The LTFRB said that the discounts may be availed in all transport modes, including buses, jeepneys, taxis and other vehicles for hire as well as tricycles, trains, aircraft and marine vessels.

The discount is also applicable all days of the week, even on holidays and during academic breaks under Republic Act 11314 or “Student Fare Discount Act” and the subsequent LTFRB Memorandum Circular 2017-024.

However, the discount does not cover students who are taking up post-graduate studies.
